Character turnaround 

veggie monster

Animated short from my Junior Project where I get to do entire production pipeline, from designing, modeling, rigging, animating, lighting, rendering and designing the sound track. The project is done in Maya and compositing in Adobe After Effects. This project was a load of fun to make, to create, and finally to finish.

Lighting setup using Mental Ray with Global illumination and Final Gathering turned on.

I used 7 lights for this scene:

  • Directional light

  • Area light

  • 2 Green fill point lights

  • 1 Blue fill point lights

  • 2 Spot lights

Props design

I decided to go for hand-painted stylized textures. Here are texture studies done in Photoshop to get the idea of the overall look.

I wanted to create contrast between the kitchen scene and the fighting scene.

 

I decided to have the beginning shots static with almost no camera movement. And more dramatic camera, screen shake and cuts during the fighting shots.
